History of Karaoke

Karaoke comes from the Japanese kara, meaning “void” and ōkesutora, meaning “orchestra.” To sing karaoke is to sing live, accompanied by the actual backup-music from your favorite songs. Where and When Did Karaoke Begin?

Karaoke began in the early 1970s in Kobe, Japan by musician Daisuke Inoue. He created tape machines that played music so people could sing along. Although he never patented it, the invention grew and later evolved into today’s modern karaoke machines—from full TV-screen systems to simple mic devices.
